Sustainable & Direct Trade Colombian Specialty Coffee
At La Reserva 22 Colombian Coffee, sustainability and Direct Trade are not separate commitments, they are the same philosophy expressed at every level of what we do. One protects the land. The other honours the people who work it. Together, they define how we source, how we compensate producers, and how we bring Colombian specialty coffee from farm to cup with purpose and full accountability.
Our coffee comes directly from the plantation to your cup — preserving origin, freshness, and the real value behind every harvest.
What Sustainability Means at La Reserva 22
Sustainability at La Reserva 22 is a daily practice, not a marketing position. We believe exceptional coffee can only exist when environmental care, social responsibility, and economic stability work together — and that each one supports the other.
We work with producers who respect the land they farm. Healthy soil, protected water sources, and preserved local biodiversity are not ideals we promote from a distance — they are conditions we look for directly when selecting our producer partners. Responsible farming practices protect the ecosystems that give Colombian coffee its altitude-driven character, and we have a direct interest in ensuring those ecosystems remain intact for future harvests.
Our packaging is 100% recyclable. The farms in our network apply environmental standards aligned with long-term sustainability. And where formal certifications exist — such as at Hacienda El Roble, which holds USDA Organic, Rainforest Alliance, and Smithsonian Bird-Friendly certifications — we are proud to carry them.
Our Direct Trade Model With Colombian Producers
Direct Trade means we source coffee directly from farmers — without brokers, without commodity market intermediaries, and without distance between us and the people who grow what we roast.
We build relationships based on transparency, trust, and shared values. We visit farms. We understand each producer’s processing methods, their altitude, their harvest cycle, and their challenges. That proximity is what allows us to select coffees that genuinely represent the diversity and richness of Colombia’s growing regions — not just coffees that pass a score threshold.
Fair Compensation Beyond Market Standards
Under our in-house compensation model, we pay above traditional market standards. That commitment holds even during low-price commodity seasons — when most buyers reduce what producers receive, we do not. We reward the dedication, expertise, and care that produce specialty-grade results, because that is the only way to sustain the quality we offer long-term.
True Colombian coffee, grown with care and traded with respect.
Transparency From Origin to Cup
Knowing where coffee comes from, how it was grown, and who produced it is not a bonus at La Reserva 22 it is a requirement. Every coffee we carry is fully traceable to its farm, its region, and its producer. That traceability is what allows us to stand behind every bag with confidence.
Fair pricing creates economic stability for farming families. Economic stability enables continued investment in quality. Quality investment produces better coffee. This is not a circular argument it is how responsible sourcing actually works over time.
